Green University Planning Committee - Grad Student Rep Needed

We are currently seeking a Graduate Student representative for the Green University Planning Committee (GUPC). Our next committee meeting is on February 19th.
Here is some information about the Committee:
Meeting Frequency
Meetings will be held on a monthly basis. Semester meeting schedules will be set at the start of each term.
Vision
- To make UNBC a more environmentally, socially and economically sustainable campus, under the guidance of the “UNBC Green Strategy” http://www.unbc.ca/assets/green/unbc_greenu_strategy_discpaper_28nov08.pdf.
- To engender a ‘culture of sustainability’ in the UNBC community.
- To make the UNBC campuses models of sustainability for communities and organizations in northern British Columbia.
- To improve on our national and international reputation for excellence in teaching and research in the area of sustainability.
Objective
The GUPC was formed in 2007 to provide a forum for the advancement and implementation of the green initiative at UNBC. The GUPC acts as an advisory and policy development body with respect to all initiatives at UNBC that will contribute to the goal of being recognized as Canada’s Green University™.
The GUPC:
- Provides input and advice to the Vice-Presidents and senior administration in developing and implementing green operational practices and procedures.
- Provides input and advice to the senior administration and faculty in incorporating green elements in their teaching and research.
- Requests, reviews and recommends Green Fund proposals to the President’s Executive Council (PEC) from all internal stakeholders, including staff, faculty, administrators and students.
- Develops performance goals and policies in the areas of “Green Living”, “Green Teaching” and “Green Research”.
- Promotes sustainability programs and initiatives and participate in communicating the University’s green pledge to the campus community.
- Coordinates the activities of Green Working Groups.
Activities of the Committee
The GUPC is chaired by the Provost. Meetings will be coordinated and agenda items will be received by the Green University Research Project Manager. The committee secretary will assist with recording and distributing meeting minutes.
The GUPC will identify goals and priorities for each year, chosen for their potential to contribute to the goals of the “UNBC Green Strategy” and Green Fund Proposal projects.
Individual Green Working Groups will be established for the areas of “Green Living (Operations)”, “Green Teaching” and “Green Research”, with projects being dealt with as they come up. The number and composition of the Working Groups will change as the Committee’s activities change.
